ATTRACTING TOP TALENT

Just like candidates need to stand out from the crowd to attract your attention, businesses and teams must often do the same - something often overlooked in the process. We are always searching for new, creative, and innovative ways to attract top talent. Sometimes you don’t have to look very far to find the best ideas or suggestions! Start with your own team. Ask them what drew them to your team? Why were they interested and what was it that really hooked them.
We took our own advice and asked our team for their input and here are their responses…

KARI ADERHOLD

“Have a highly selective process and communicate that. Show candidates that the alignment of culture is important, that you want to put them in the best possible seat on the bus for their career path and that what is important to them aligns with what is important to you and the firm. Right fit, right timing, right reasons.”

HAILEY HOEBEL

“Inviting the candidate to their next fun team event! It’s an amazing way to build the relationship right off the bat.”

BREE FIRENZE

“Having the hiring team learn what is important to me and then identifies how that can be incorporated within my work/schedule. Example: giving flexibility for things like school drop off/pick up or other child related activities is more important to me than compensation.”

DAWN MCCLUSKEY

“One of the ways I think our clients can set themselves up for success when attracting talent is by...making sure their interview process is streamlined and that the candidate is not waiting for too long between interviews by making any adjustments to tighten up the timeline.”

ERIN ELDER

“Employer branding. The employer brand should summarize all the great reasons someone would want to work at the organization. Think career page/website used as a billboard - share examples of what it is like to work at the company. Also, share/celebrate transformation stories and highlight the company culture. This is a great way to initiate the candidate envisioning themselves as a part of the organization.”

MELINDA BATEMAN

“During the process, bring in a few current employees - maybe at different stages of their careers at the company - to meet the candidate, maybe even have them give their reason for wanting to work there when they went through the process. If you know backstory on the candidate, find people within the team that they might have something in common with. Feeling like I would settle in quickly and belong there, even before I actually started, would be such an attractive component for me.”

CRYSTA BUSH

“When I think about what attracts top talent, my first thought is pay and benefits. Everything about the company can be perfect but if the comp is low and the benefits aren't great, candidates will continue to look elsewhere.”

JESSICA DeSHETLER

“Having a good company culture. Whether that be getting involved in your community or offering different ways to feel a part of the "wholeness" of the company. If you want well rounded people the company itself has to be as well.”
